The Eurabia crowd never tires of portraying European Muslims as a fifth-column whom are festering in angry ghettos with no sense of Western values or commitment to the countries they have settled in.

Of course, such a picture is born not out of a genuine research but just bigoted fear-mongering whose basis is only prejudice. Europeans Muslims are a diverse groups from South Asians in the United Kingdom, to North Africans in France to Turks in Germany. The “Islam factor” can often also be exaggerated when speaking about European Muslims. It is not hyperbole to say that those in the Eurabia crowd are more obsessed about Islam in Europe than actually Muslims.

Integration has been difficult in many cases for European Muslims in contrast to their Muslim brethren in the United States. Many, not all of whom are anti-Islam, will state that this is due to them being Muslims. But is is not. It has to do more with the prejudice they confront, especially in France, and the issues of class. Unlike American Muslims who are mostly middle and upper-middle class, European Muslims are mostly lower class.

But even though Muslims have had some difficulty assimilating in comfortable fashion in Europe, their patriotism is not lacking. If anything, they are more patriotic than native Europeans.

A new survey shows that 2/3 of French, British and German Muslims state they are loyal to their respective countries. There patriotism numbers are higher than the general public.

The report further stated, “Muslims are very likely - often more likely than the general public - to express confidence in democratic institutions and a desire to live in neighborhoods with mixed ethnic and religious backgrounds.”

But in a reflection that it is not often Muslims who are holding back from joining European society in a plenary manner, but, rather European bigotry that stands in the way; only 30% of the general public thought that Muslims are loyal to their countries.

As a final note, not all Muslims in Europe are immigrants and the children of immigrants. Albania, a EU and NATO state, is a Muslim-majority country. Kosovo is a new Muslim country. Bosnia is a 40% Muslim nation. There are sizable minorities of Muslims in Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro and Greece. And Russia is 10% Muslim.
